Tapping FAQs

What is tapping?
Tapping is acupuncture without the needles. It comes under the heading of energy psychology.  We combine ancient Chinese knowledge of the body’s meridian system with modern day psychology to CLEAR negative emotions and negative emotional experiences.

EFT/Tapping is based on the discovery statement that “negative emotions cause a disruption in body’s energy system.” Gary Craig

You literally tap on median end points while focusing on our problems to de-stress the body and mind.

Is EFT and tapping the same thing?
Yes.
EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Technique
also generically known as tapping.

What is EFT/Tapping used for?
Besides everything? Tapping can be used for phobias, fear, anxiety, stress, sports performance, relationship issues, weight loss, physical symptoms, PTSD, and addictions. There is no limit as to what tapping can be used for.

Gary Craig, the creator of EFT, says two things:
1. Try it on EVERYTHING.
2. Be persistent.

I say “Tapping works when you know how to work it.” Tapngrl

How does it work?
We tap energy meridian end points on the face and body while focusing on a negative emotion or experience to clear the emotional charge in our body. While we still have the memory we have cleared the emotional attachment.

Does science back it up?
Science is catching up to what we as “Tappers” already know… “IT WORKS!”  Science has been able to measure a reduction of cortisol, the stress hormone, after tapping. As well as, changes in blood flow, and increased relaxation. Scientifically it is known that “tapping” calms down the amygdala, the part of the brain that turns on fight, flight, or freeze.

Does it replace current treatments?
NO!

If you are currently receiving care from a medical practitioner it is important that you consult with your doctor.  It can be used in conjunction with current medical/psychological care.

Are there specific points and what are they?
Please see the overwhelm video on the home page for the main tapping points.  (or view the diagram at the bottom of the media page)

Does the order of the tapping points matter?
NO.

There is a USUAL tapping SEQUENCE that is generally used by most.  More importantly, Tapping is an easy to learn; forgiving technique that anyone can use and get results.

How often and how long do I tap?
Tapping does a body good. How long and how often is different with each individual. I usually tap daily. The length of time depends on the issue and what you’re trying to clear. Tapping for as little as ten minutes a day can effectively reduce stress. Bigger issues may require help from a practitioner.

How do I know if I’m using the right words?

This is the most commonly asked question.
The words help us focus on the issue and emotion we are trying to clear.

While we are tapping we’re just telling the truth…For example:

“Even though I have this anxiety in stomach…”

“Even though my boss criticizes me in front of other people…”

“Even though I’m afraid of spiders…”

Are the words you’re using helping you focus? Can you feel the feelings of being in “it” again?

Working with a practitioner can help provide clarity.

If I have a positive result how long will it last?
When core issues are found and addressed the results of the tapping are lasting. If an issue has re-emerged that lets us know there may be another aspect of the issue that needs to be addressed.
